Shaken Up

And yesterday I was feeling so much better about my condition. I just got back from my doctor's appointment.

Although I have improved, I'm clearly not 100% better yet, so she's extending the antibiotics for another 10 days and has scheduled me for a chest CAT scan on Friday.

The xrays revealed cavitary lesions at the base of my left lung, and possibly a fluid-filled cyst. Doc says it may just go away on its own or I may have to have it dealt with surgically. Needless to say that scares the crap out of me. She said the likelihood that I would need such a procedure is very low. I hope she's right.

In the meantime she recommends I do deep breathing (even though it is painful) to stretch out the lung and try to keep it from bunching up as the scar tissue forms. I'm pretty shaken up right now as well as exhausted from the running around, so I'm going to bed.

I'm sure you'll be fine but try not to let the stress between now and learning more information get to you too much... You are still convalescing... so don't worry yourself down and relapse. You don't know anything specific right now... so choose the glass half full side.

Chuck,

Doctors are very cautious, and that's a good thing. Do what she says and try to forget about the possibilities. If I had a dollar for every time I've sat around for days or weeks waiting to find out if I have cancer, I'd have five bucks. ;-)

Seriously... you're obviously getting better. Keep doing what you're doing and add the deep breathing to that. If you don't continue to improve, worry about it then. And when you're completely better, vow to start exercising. It's good for your lungs.

The important thing is that you're getting better. Keep getting better and getting stronger and face whatever you have to do IF it becomes necessary.

You know worrying won't help. This visit sounds like good news to me. You should feel better. And I'm glad you have competent and thorough medical care.

Try not to worry. I know thats much easier said than done, I'd be scared too. Yet, it is so true, the stress of worrying about it could have a negative impact on your recovery. I have faith that all will be well, it's just going to take time.
