Interesting Articles I've Read
View Article  Mel Gibson is an Asshole
Okay I admit I've enjoyed a lot of his movies, but Mel has been getting weirder and weirder as he's gotten older. You'll probably recall that accusations of anti-semitism were leveled at him when Passion of the Christ came out. Was there anything to it? Mel dismissed it as nonsense, but provided no small amount of corroborative evidence last week when he was pulled over for drunk driving and started screaming about the "fucking Jews"...   more »
View Article  Stifling Heat
Aagh it's hot and muggy.  Nobody has the energy to do anything it's so bloody hot.  I took a swim the other night at the pond, that was pleasant.  I may do so again today...
View Article  Another Day Gone
Well I went back to the Tamminem Quarry today, and spent several hot hours hammering rocks in the sun, but I enjoyed myself. Last night I stayed up late to finish The Book of the Dead by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, even though I hated practically every minute of it...   more »

Last night was somewhat hectic as Lynnea's cousins Samantha and Breanna slept over at our trailer...   more »
View Article  Name That Movie #64
You didn't think being deep in the woods of Maine would stop me from posting a Name That Movie, did you? I am of the opinion that this NTM is somewhat challenging but it is often a surprise discovering what other folks are familiar or unfamiliar with. Anyway, you know the drill. On with the show...   more »
View Article  Lakes Discovered on Titan

Cool! Check this out.

...The cluster of lakes was spotted near Titan's frigid north pole during a weekend flyby by the international Cassini spacecraft, which flew within 590 miles of the moon.

Researchers counted about a dozen lakes six to 62 miles wide. Some, which appeared as dark patches in radar images, were connected by channels, while others had tributaries flowing into them. Several were dried up, but the ones that contained liquid were most likely a mix of methane and ethane...

View Article  Holy Crap Am I Sore

Oh my achin' eggs and bacon.  I'm sore as hell today from yesterday's little 2 mile hike.  I desperately need to get into shape.  Didn't really do anything today, just relaxed.  Dinner last night was grilled steak, mmmm, and salad.

Two bad movies I've been trying to get through lately are "7 Mummies" and "Dog Soldiers".  I had high hopes for Dog Soldiers because it stars Sean Pertwee who I really like (having first seen him play the part of Mr. Smith in Event Horizon.)  Unfortunately both movies sucked donkey balls... I seriously do NOT recommend them.  I've fallen asleep 3 times trying to get through 7 Mummies and twice trying to get through Dog Soldiers.  Save yer money kiddies!

View Article  Pulpit Rock
Phew! I hiked up to Pulpit Rock today, which is about a 2 mile hike on land bordering Papoose Pond campground. Not a huge elevation (900+ feet) but a lot of steep bits, to say nothing of the fact that you have to cross a waist-deep river to make the hike (Crooked River)...   more »
View Article  It's 2006...

And I'm downloading indie music for my MP3 player from a picnic table in a wide courtyard surrounded by tall pines, in the shade of an umbrella with a beautiful blue sky dotted by slow moving cumulous clouds above.  The scent of fresh pine is on the breeze and I can hear little kids playing in the distance.  Damn.  Technology is something... the future is now.

(It's also Monday and I'm not even thinking about work.  That's the effing bomb, yo!)

View Article  Me and the Skeleton Detective
So it's the beginning of day three and I am utterly relaxed. I've had a very pleasant time playing video games, watching movies, and reading. When I wandered into Barnes & Noble the other day I was delighted to find not one but TWO books by Aaron Elkins that I had not yet read...   more »
View Article  Daddy, Where's My Karaoke Game?
You know it's very simple... when you take the game out of the XBOX, put the disk back in the case it came out of.  That's all there is to it... no rocket science involved.  Because when Dad goes into the living room to grab a game you want to bring with you somewhere, he doesn't look inside the case to make sure it is in there.  He shouldn't have to.  Hopefully being 200 miles from the Karaoke game disk will bring this lesson home... because it is one I am tired of repeating.
View Article  New Experiences
So today I’m wearing boxer briefs. Now you may have one or two questions at this point, neither of which is probably "why are you wearing boxer briefs?" More likely you're asking "why are you telling me this?" or "why would I care?" Read on to see which of these questions I'm planning to answer...   more »
