Took a brief walk yesterday in the late afternoon and saw pussywillows, pollywogs, and even turtles! Looks like Spring is here. I also saw the very first teensy sliver of the new crescent moon... that was pretty cool.

You've heard me mention 3hive before, a great source for independent music. Every couple weeks or so I go there and work my way backward through the posts to see what new music they've found. I'd like to recommend Antennas... it's somewhat unpolished but I really liked Always on My Mind. For some reason I have this strange feeling that the song Went to a Dance will appeal to my friend James. I'm also having a bit of fun listening to Victor Scott (some of it anyway). Recent photos component added to sidebar. It uses rolling divisions to display the photo thumbnails, which look good in IE and -okay- in mozillla... (mozilla and similar browsers seem to ignore the vertical-align style on the span, so photos with long titles don't line up nicely... I may deal with this by dropping the titles from the recent photos sidebar.)... more »

Periodically over the history of our planet, our ecosystem has seen massive die-offs of species. The causes of these extinction events are unclear although there are many theories (climate change, disease, global disasters). There are many such extinction events recorded in the fossil record, but science recognizes generally five "biggies": End Ordovician, Late Devonian, End Permian, End Triassic, and End Cretaceous (the latter marking the end of the non-avian dinosaurs some 65.5 million years ago.) So when was #6? Well that happens in the Holocene epoch--otherwise known as today... more »
