Dam and Waterfall
At this end of the pond was a dam with water spilling over it into a brook. Note all those cubic stones in the water... my Dad and I wondered what purpose those serve. Keeping large pieces of flotsam from going downstream perhaps?

I believe the granite blocks are meant to slow the flow of water. In times of moderate rainfall, and in times of melting ice, the water flowing over the dam can be quite forceful. The blocks slow the flow down so as not to damage the sensitive brook-like area downstream from the dam.
I've been going to that park for years... even before the current dam was in place! |
