I vote for Debbie based on the photos, but I imagine you have to see them in action and gauge their personalities. Good luck!

Debbie looks like the evil spawn my parents had, mistakenly named Cinderella. When she was a tiny kitten, she would put her paw in the middle of the communal feed bowl and eat around it until she was finished. Then her mother, father, and littermates might have a turn.

Don't worry about turning into crazy animal people. My sister currently has a number of horses (at least four, possibly five, I really can't keep track), four dogs (I think, again, she keeps adding), two barn cats, and two huge tanks of fish plus the extra tank full of babies. Yet she still seeks human companionship and cleans the lot. I think the edge of that cliff is somewhere around eight cats.

I have a friend at work who has nine cats. His wife is a veterinarian. It's hard to think of someone who has a degree in veterinary medicine as a "crazy animal person", and so if a vet can own 9 cats, I figure I can own 3.

I can't say for sure but it looks to me like Debbie is just being held in place for the photo against her will... probably because the photographer was in a hurry. The one who looks potentially the grouchiest to me is Dottie... but we have to meet them first. That will perhaps tell us a lot.

Nahhhh... what's a few cats, a couple dogs, a guinea pig, goldfish, a cockatiel, a tree boa, a half-dozen tarantulas, a capybara, 2 chinchillas, 3 llamas, a moose, an okapi, and a narwhal? Oh excuse me, it's time to feed the ocelot.

The first one does look evil, but I understand that this is a plus in a cat. The second one looks like it wants you to think that it's not evil. The third one looks like it's trying to decide if the picture-taker is evil or not.

I believe the kitten in the top picture ("Debbie") is being held in place for the camera, and probably isn't in the mood for it. You can see her ears are to the sides and angled a bit downward. It suggests to me at the time she wanted to play or do something other than sit still for a picture. How hard is it to get a picture of a cat? So that suggests to me that Debbie is very active. But her somewhat "are we having fun yet?" expression reminds me of so many other cats I've owned. I just love it when a cat looks that way.

"Dolly" on the other hand is (from the pictures alone) the cutest IMHO. I agree with you James. She looks to me like she is saying "Up to mischief? Me? Uhhh, I was just using the catbox." Patty also thinks Dolly is the cutest.

"Dottie" seems to be hunched up in her own space when the picture taker arrives to photograph. To me her expression suggests "What? What? I just got settled in here, what do YOU want?" "Dottie" appears to be Lynnea's favorite and she has suggested the names "Sprinkle" or "Biscuit" or "Lulu" for this kitten.

I think Dolly is the cutest, too. Debbie looks to me like she's being pet very hard. Sometimes when I pet a cat, I'll do a few back-smushers to see if they're in the mood to lie down, and their ears do that. One of those boneless cat expressions.

BTW - I'm having trouble figuring out what circumstances would cause you to decide that you didn't want to adopt these cuties.

I finally came up with "you probably would decide not to adopt if one of them turned out to be an alien entity." But then, I'm not sure how you test for that, so I pretty much figure this is as close to a done deal as possible. :D

See now you're thinking like a pet lover. Watch out or you'll be next!

As far as reasons not to adopt? If we discovered that for some reason we were exceptionally allergic to these particular animals, possibly. Or since this is a shelter, these could be wild kittens, and might be a bit too feral for us. If they are feral, one would hope that their time in the shelter has helped acclimate them to people and other animals.

The thing I like about this shelter is they have a no-kill policy. Difficult or unwanted cats remain in the shelter and are cared for indefinitely. People who aren't pet owners or (for reasons beyond their control) can't be pet owners can choose to sponsor a cat at the shelter, making a monthly donation to aid in that cat's care.
