So some guy just called me up out of the blue to ask if I was looking for work.
"No, " I said, "I'm happily employed."
"Well, maybe you can help me out with my company, I'm looking to hire about 300 people. Do you know anyone who is out of work?"
"Not that I can think of offhand. What sort of skillsets are you looking for?"
"Good people skills."
At this point I am thinking, That's it? So I tried another tack: "Well what kind of business does your company do?"
"We're a financial services company, " he said vaguely, and seeing that nothing else was coming, I said:
"Well okay, give me your number and if I hear from any of my friends that they are looking for work, I'll pass it along."
"That would be great!" He gave me the number and began to say goodbye without even mentioning the name of his company.
"Wait," I said, "What's your company's name."
"It's called Primerica, we're part of Citigroup."
"Ok, thanks."
So I went poking around on the 'net to try and find out anything about Primerica. It turns out it's a stupid pyramid scheme. All of my friends will be glad to know I have no intention of passing along "Don's" number to them.
Sorry Don, look elsewhere for the next tier of your pyramid.
