Scarcely an hour after I left my article on the windshield of the "Flying Pig", my coworker Kevin came into my office and said "Hey Chuck, there's a lady outside with a note who says she is looking for the guy who owns the purple PT." I said, "You left her standing out in the hall?"...
In the hall I finally got to meet the other PT owner, a woman named Beth. She seemed a very nice person and was quite delighted to find my article on her windshield when she left work. She recalled seeing me exit the hardware store yesterday, but had been in a hurry herself, and not knowing that I wanted to speak to her had driven off to finish her errands.
She remarked that she had seen my PT around town and admitted that she is interested in starting a Massachusetts-based PT Cruiser club!
Apparently the only PT Club she knows of is one based in (or that holds events in) New York. (I just did a quick search on the 'net and found the PT Cruiser Club Massachusetts Chapter website -- Beth, if you're reading this, you may want to touch base with these people.)
Apparently the Winged Pig hood ornament (which indeed came from JC Whitney) was a gift from Beth's husband who is himself a car lover and owner of a classy yellow Morgan. Like many people who collect charms or knick-knacks of penguins, cows, frogs or what-have-you, Beth likes pigs--or rather, liked pigs, having received so many piggy items over the years that she has since tired of them. But the Flying Pig ornament was so unique that Beth decided she did indeed want it mounted on her Cruiser. I laughed as she recalled covering her ears while her hubby and son drilled the necessary holes in her PT's hood to attach the ornament. I can imagine, the idea of someone poking holes in my car wouldn't sit so well with me either!
We went on to discuss how generally friendly PT owners are... almost always returning a friendly wave or headlight-flash to another PT driver on the road. Anyway, I told Beth if she wanted to start a PT Club, I'd join it.
I needed to get back to work and Beth needed to be on her way. So we said goodbye. A very nice person... I'm glad I got to meet her and solve "The Mystery of the Flying Pig".
