A few months back while driving through Littleton, MA I saw a Cranberry Pearl PT Cruiser like mine (but not a turbo) with whitewall tires
and a curious hood ornament--a pig with wings. I wouldn't want such an ornament on my PT, but I was always curious to know why the owner selected that ornament.
I've since seen the PT parked in the same place in Littleton a couple of times, and a few days ago I found myself driving behind it. The owner waved at me and I waved back. She pulled into the grocery store across the street from where I work, and I was late for work so I pulled into my office parking lot. I was disappointed that I didn't have time to park next to her for a minute just so I could say "hello" and find out what the "flying pig" ornament means to her. I bet it is an interesting story.
Today my coworker Dennis came into my office and said "Hey Chuck, there's a PT like yours parked out front with a huge hood ornament on it." I checked the front window and sure enough, parked down there was the winged oinker, looking like a honey with its fancy whitewalls. ![]()
The ground floor of our office building contains a hardware store (an Aubuchon's) and I figured the owner must be in the store. So I went downstairs and wandered through the store to try and find the owner. It occurred to me that I wouldn't know her if I saw her so I should just go out front and wait by her car. When I got out there her hatch was up and she was just driving away. We looked at each other, but I'm sure she didn't know what to make of me.
I felt that waving to her and trotting over would be too awkward and I didn't want to alarm her, so I just watched her drive around the building.
As her hatch was up, I figured she was driving around the back of the store to pick up some potting soil or something, so I wandered around the other side of the building to see if I could catch up with her. But alas, when I got back there she was not there. There was an Aubuchon staff member standing there having a cigarette.
"Looking for someone?" he asked. "Yeah, the lady in the purple PT Cruiser." I said. "Oh, she just got a bag of lime and drove right back out the way she came." he explained.
So I walked back to my office, feeling a little silly and somewhat disappointed to have my curiousity unsatisfied yet again.
Ah well. Maybe another time. While writing this however, I came up with another plan. I'll print a copy of this article and keep it in my PT, and the next time I see the flying pig parked somewhere, I'll leave the article on the windshield. ![]()
So if you just came out of someplace and found this on your windshield, don't be alarmed. I'm just another happy PT driver and I wanted to let you know how awesome your car looks, but I'm curious about the flying pig hood ornament.

EDIT: Here's a company that sells a flying pig hood ornament... don't know if this was the kind I saw though.
