Interesting Articles I've Read
View Article  Shower Zombie
Okay I have this problem, I admit it. When I step into the shower in the morning, and that deliciously warm and soothing water washes over me, it eats my brain and I turn into a shower zombie. Five minutes, ten minutes, fifteen minutes...   more »
View Article  Ow
Damn am I sore. I've been taking Vanessa to the carwash about once a week, one of those automated carwashes that doesn't touch the car. It does an okay job, but not a great job. I've been telling myself that when the weather got better I would give her a good washing by hand. Today was the day...   more »
View Article  School of Rock -- Review
I picked up School of Rock several weeks ago at Newbury Comics, but then I didn't watch it. When I buy movies I usually buy a handful at a time, five or six, and one buy one I viewed all the others until only School of Rock was left. And then I still didn't watch it...   more »
View Article  Spring -- Sprung?
Yesterday (3/28) my daughter came running in with a flower she had found in the backyard.  It appeared to be a crocus and I asked her to show me where she found it.  The sight of those pale purple flowers filled me with happiness that perhaps Spring proper would soon be upon us...   more »
View Article  Against All Enemies -- Review

Richard Clarke's new book Against All Enemies came out on Monday, and I picked it up Monday afternoon.  I began reading it on Wednesday and became so engrossed I read until 3 AM in the morning and got about halfway ...   more »

View Article  Today's Lesson -- How to Kill Baby Animals
In Plant City, Florida, yesterday Jane Bender--a local high school teacher--came under criticism for killing two baby rabbits with a shovel as her class watched back on February 12...   more »
View Article  Against All Enemies

Just a quick note, I bought Richard Clarke's new book Against All Enemies and it is a real page turner!  Fascinating.  I'll post some sort of review when I finish reading it.

UPDATE: Here's the review.

View Article  Spring Cometh...

Seen today: one house sparrow courting the ladies outside my office, and one northern cardinal doing the same in my backyard.  This afternoon while picking up Neya at school, I heard a killdeer singing, and a blue jay singing the springtime queedle-queedle song.

*sigh*

Spring cometh... and my heart is wont to soar.

Vanessa's windshield has been growing a nasty crack after having been hit by a small rock which bounced up off the road some weeks back as I was driving...   more »
View Article  'Under God' -- Tradition My Butt
Today the Supreme Court is hearing arguments about the presence of the words 'under God' in the Pledge of Allegiance that children are expected to recite in school each morning.  Needless to say a lot of controversy swirls around this case...   more »

View Article  Pocket Change...
While sitting in the waiting room at the car dealership this morning, and feeling a little peckish, I glanced over at the vending machine. Therein was a Snickers bar that was saying to me "Not Going Anywhere for Awhile?" After buying the candy bar I looked at the change, and played a little game that I've done for as long as I remember...   more »
View Article  Vanessa's First Doctor's Appointment
Today was Vanessa's first "Doctor's Appointment". This weekend my car had her first hiccup. While I was driving to work on Saturday...   more »
View Article  Juncos
I saw some Juncos the other day as I was coming out of the house to go to work. It was the first time I had noticed them this winter. Which struck me because there was a time when I was a much more avid birdwatcher. Juncos generally arrive in greater numbers during fall migration, you see, and they've been around for months now. The fact that I had just spotted them in March, when they are getting ready to leave, reminded me of how little I've paid attention...   more »
