The Prey

Another cat magnet is the everyday flying insect. Last nite a dragonfly got in my backdoor and my cats went nuts. It finally settled on flying around my den with an army of cats patrolling underneath. Cherokee was the most affected by it, standing on her hind legs on a desk and pawing at the air while mewling (I should add that none of our cats is very vocal, when they meow, it's unusual.) She ran everywhere trying to find a way up to get the thing, but nothing was high enough for her to reach.

Assisted Hunting

So eventually I tired of the commotion and decided to help out. Twice I caught the bug in my hat and then held it out to Cherokee but for some reason she was afraid of my hat! So then I settled on the alternate approach... if I can't bring the bug to the cat... maybe I can bring the cat to the bug.

Although a little nervy about being in my hands 7 plus feet in the air, Cherokee soon forgot all about it as the bug began flying around again.

Cherokee nabs the bug, upon which I set her down and enjoyed peace and quiet for approximately 5 minutes until the bug got away from her and flew back up to the ceiling. I shut the light off and eventually the bug flew back down near the floor again where Cherokee nabbed it for good. Little lion, that one.

Snow Globes?

While enjoying the sunbeam, Cherokee took an interest in this globe showing kittens trying to get at goldfish. I found it ironic that a snow globe celebrating a cat magnet of sorts, would itself be a cat magnet.

The globe itself is pretty cute, but does have one major flaw. It contains a music box that plays "That's What Friends Are For" when you wind it--which always puts me in the position of fighting the urge to smash it with something heavy.

Sunbeams

A nice soft spot to lie in a warm sunbeam is definitely a major cat magnet... when working from home I sometimes fold a towel on the table next to me. Throughout the day, cats will come to visit me and sprawl on the towel.

Small Furry Magnets

Of course the best cat magnet is something that moves of it's own will, like a Guinea Pig for example. Here's Sprinkles, hovering over Lily's cage.

If you can call that "hovering" that is. Sprinkles seems to be establishing herself as "the fat one" with gusto.

Hidey Holes

Another favorite cat magnet is the crawlspace. Especially the "new" crawlspace. Pull any drawer out of a chest of drawers and you're sure to find a cat in that spot when you go to return it.

Furry Presents

Or rather, the Christma tree skirt is apparently a cat magnet. The skirt is soft and fuzzy and warmed by the glow of many small lights. Perfect spot for the cats to cuddle up.

Bunching

As you can see Sunny has bunched up the skirt here. Sooner or later I'll come back and find her face planted in that bunch... snoozing away.

Gettin' Snuggy

Sprinkie and Cherry are snuggled up with each other on the other side of the tree. Sprinx is blurry because I took these shots without a flash. I wanted to capture the dim off-color lighting of the tree.

A nice fluffy blanket makes a great cat-magnet. When I was sick in bed for all those weeks, my kitties would come, sit, and visit with me. It was very nice to have a fuzzy cuddlebuddy when I was feeling down. Cherokee loved to play with me or play in the blankets while I was resting. I snapped this picture with my cellphone months ago and just came across it now.

Windowsills make great cat magnets. Cherry and Sprinkie are fascinated by the birds they see outside the upstairs bathroom window.
